Ibrahim Hewitt is a well-known British political and social commentator, author, educator and humanitarian and human rights activist. He is a regular visitor to the Middle East, particularly Palestinian refugee camps in the Gaza Strip, Lebanon and Jordan. In 2011 he was awarded an honorary doctorate by the Islamic University of Gaza for his support for the people of Palestine, with whom, and for whom, he has worked since 1988.
Hewitt is currently the Senior Editor at the Middle East Monitor, chair of the board of trustees of the British charity Interpal (1997-present) and the Managing Trustee of Al-Aqsa School in Leicester, which he founded with his wife in 1998; he was head teacher from 2001-2008 and 2012/13. He has held a number of posts in education and the media since 1984.
